Hello all! This is the talk page for the 2008 Ikata-Red Wing Exchange Program. My name is Aaron; I'm Ikata's "Coordinator for International Relations" (CIR). I'll be traveling with the students and helping out with the homestays. Please feel free to leave messages here for the group; we'll try to get back with updates on our trip.

This is Aaron. Thank you all for your messages. I've been reading them to the kids every morning, and they've been a source of much amusement. We made it safely to Ikata and everyone has gone off to their homestays now, so those with internet access will be able to check your messages on their own.
The wiki updates will slow a little bit as we won't know what the kids are up to at their homestays until after-the-fact. We'll continue to post about group events, such as the Tree Planting Ceremony and Welcome Party tomorrow.

we are at are homestays right now. so the people i am staying with are at school right now and i needed something to do so i decided to try this out!! ikata is a beautiful place to be, you are surrounded by mountians and wilderness, alot different from tokyo where all you see is big tall buildings. the people in Japan are very kind and polite, it is kind of different from america ( americans rush stuff and get pushy; japanese people take their time with you) but any ways i am gonna wait for the girls to get home school so ta ta for now

What happened to the quiet reserved kids I met in Red Wing?
Hello everyone in Red Wing! Somewhere around the international date line your children turned into crazy teenagers. The group has bonded and is having a great time. With it is lots of silly antics, stupid jokes (only to me evidently) and a fun group of kids. You should all be proud of them, they are embracing the experience and their energy is contagious. I am enjoying watching them interact with their peers, and new friends from Ikata. Hey there Super Matt: You aren't missing much back home. The Lake flies have hatched by the millions. Even Grandpa, the best fisherman in the area, is blaming them for the fish not biting. We will try to bottle up some May Fly carcasses so that you will not miss out on that lovely smell ;-). It has also been a bit too windy for water skiing. Try not to spend all your energy on having fun in Japan. Save some for us when you get back stateside. Your skiing buddies, Jay & Cathy PS Sure has been nice and quiet by the river. Hey Cyndi - I just wanted to let you know that I got your text's - last night at 3:30 in the morning!! I couldn't reach anyone at your house to find out if they were able to reset your password, so I went ahead and did it myself. The password that you wanted was too short so I added 2008 to the end of it (with no space between the word and the year). Hope this works and that no one else resets it again!

Hi, it`s Briana. Just wanted to thank all the parents for sending your children on this wonderful trip. We`ve all made great memories and great new friends. To all you host parents, there is nothing to worry about. These children are polite, intellegent, and hilarious human beings. After 2 days of living with them, they`ll be like your own children. Some of you may wish they were your own children! I have felt welcomed by the people of Japan from the moment I got on the plane. (I`m constantly telling the Red Wing boys they need to be polite like the Ikata boys going to Red Wing.) So my message to you all is to justãrelax! We`re all having the time of our lives!

In addition I thought it only fair that I should warn parents that your children are a big deal here. Their "parents" constantly worry that they are not eating enough, are happy and are you SURE you are not hungry. I saw many "parents" fanning the Red Wing kids yesterday at the festival so they wouldn't be uncomfortable. They walk around and people constantly take their pictures. To Katie, no... I will not come to your house and fan you when we get home!! This experience is even more amazing than I knew! These are lucky kids to be able to experience Japan in this way! Everyone, (even Matt and Mike who dont contact home!) misses home but they all agree that this is trip is flying by!

Hi Hannah! It`s great to hear from you! I miss you so much! But I`m coming back soon. We have so much to talk about! I bought you lots of gifts! I almost lost one in Tokoyo. Japan is so cool! I want to live here! I`ve gotten used to the heat. I really wish you could have came with me. Me and Emily have been gotten alot of laughs out of them. Hi! I sent you an email not too long ago. Thanks for talking to Hannah Mama. Or as they say in Japan, Arigatoo Hoziomas! The japanese books have helped alot. It really hard just to make normal conversation sometimes. I really like some of the food here. Like sushi! Me and Emily are probably the only Red Wing kids who really like it, I thought I`d hate it for sure! You know as well as I do that I`m a picky eater! I`ve been fed well ih Japan, sometimes a little too much. They do have big pourtions. I miss Dixie! I bought her some Japanese Chew Chews. They were only a dollar. I bought the twins some presents too. Don`t worry about the chopsticks. I can`t wait to see you guys! Bri

I'm sorry. My personal computer had some trouble. I was afraid she would be bored or lonely because I was so busy with my work.
But, my family tried to make friends with her. We went out driving.
I dressed her and her friends in "Yukata" and "Kimono". They were very beautiful. We had a happy time together.
We spent 10 days with Briana in Japan. Our family learned many things from Briana. She always said "arigatou" (thank you) to us. It's a casual way to say "thanks." I myself can't say "arigatou." I was taught by Briana. "Arigatou! Briana."
We had a good time with Briana during those 10 days. She was very kind to us. She gave me plenty of good memories.
