Laundry

From IkataWiki

Customs regarding laundry in Japan are somewhat different from those in the US.

Though most have washing machines, very few households in Japan have dryers. Most families hang their clothes outside to dry. For this reason, in a homestay situation where a Japanese visitor goes to America, he or she is unlikely to be familiar with operating clothes dryers.

Furthermore, Japanese people tend to be embarrassed by others seeing or touching their underwear. A Japanese visitor may prefer to do his or her own laundry out of embarrassment. If you offer to do your visitor's laundry, please respect his or her privacy, and be understanding if he or she declines.
