JET Welcome Party

The JET Welcome Party is a party for incoming Ehime JETs, usually held in late September. It was held at the Marine Park Niihama in the city of Niihama in 2006 and possibly earlier.

Facilities

Marine Park Niihama offers the following facilities (top to bottom on the map):

In 2006 we had the main party on the Campgrounds and Beach, and some stayed overnight in the Clubhouse.

Costs

These are the costs paid directly to Marine Park Niihama for items we used in 2006. (Prices are current as of September 3, 2007. See the Marine Park website for newer rates.)

Transportation

The closest train station is JR Takihama|多喜浜駅|Takihama-eki, but express trains don't stop there, so most people will probably go to JR Niihama|新居浜駅|Niihama-eki. Marine Park Niihama is about 4–5 miles (7km) from JR Niihama (map), so enlist people with cars to help drive.

It costs ¥2,900 and takes about 1 hour to take an express train from JR Matsuyama to JR Niihama. Express trains run once an hour. (September 3, 2007)

Other issues

New JETs may not be aware of proper etiquette in public places in Japan. Though this is a party, noise should be kept reasonable as there will probably be other guests. Outdoor lights are turned off around 10pm, and the expectation is that people will be quiet after this point.
Garbage can be difficult to deal with. The group is responsible for picking up and disposing of all of its garbage. You cannot give bags of garbage to the Park to dispose of; you must take the garbage home with you. If you dispose of the garbage within Niihama, you must use Niihama city garbage bags.
