Elementary English curriculum

An official English language curriculum for elementary school does not yet exist in Japan as of 2008. In the absence of any sort of guidelines, JETs have traditionally made up their lesson plans entirely on their own.

Sample curriculum

This is a sample curriculum created by a teacher at Kuchō Elementary School in Old Ikata.

Note
  • The "♪" indicates song titles from a particular children's song CD.
  • The Japanese academic year begins in April, but JETs first arrive in September
  • In this school, grades 1 & 2 (and 3 & 4 and 5 & 6) are taught together. The year this was made, the largest class was 12 children.
  • ALT+CIR visits to elementary schools in Old Ikata occur only once per month.
