The Red Wing group concluded their Hiroshima tour by taking a ferry across from Honshū to Shikoku, where the town bus picked them up and brought them to their host families in Ikata. In all there were nine lovely families excited to share their lives with the Red Wing students. From July 20th to the morning of July 30, the students experienced the summer in rural Japan, tried arts, crafts, and food, and participated in Ikata's Kinahaiya summer festival.

Seven Red Wing families opened their homes to the student group from Ikata, including eight students and two chaperons. While in Red Wing, the students were able to tour local sights, visit a Wisconsin dairy farm, eat fresh-baked pizza made entirely from ingredients grown on one farm, go to concerts in the park, play their favorite sports and experience a popular group dance class for the first time, and walk in the River City Days parade.
