Machimi History Museum

This, Ikata's only museum facility, opened in June 1999, housed in the former Machimi Junior High School building. Inside you'll find a wealth of information about the history of the Machimi area, as well as historical writings, and artifacts used by local people in their daily lives. The museum periodically offers special themed exhibitions, hands-on learning workshops, and visits to local historical sites.

Come take a fun and enlightening look at local history, and the lives of generations past!

  Exhibit hall

  All kinds of daily tools and implements are on display here, following themes of "the seasons," "the sea," and "the mountains."

  Travel back to the past at the hands-on corner, where you can touch and try out these historical tools to see how they were used in real life.

  Machimi Junior High School Memorial Classroom

  This memorial classroom is left untouched from the days when Machimi Junior High School was still operating. Take a look into the past lives of former students through their graduation photos and essays.
