Usuki Walking Tour

Come join the Sadamisaki Adventure Club for its February outing—to the Usuki area! Just a month or two ago, tunnels opened directly connecting the Ikatagoshi and Kameura neighborhoods to Route 197 “Melody Line”. There we’ll check out a temple dedicated to the Koyasu Kannon (a Buddhist deity that protects pregnant women and their children) and explore the legend of the ancient Heike warriors who were banished to this area after being defeated in the Genpei War.

Driving directions
Take Route 197 into Ikata
Make a left at the CATV sign, after the athletic field and before the 4th tunnel

27th Annual Agriculture Festival

It’s time to ring in the New Year with the JA and Ikata!

Minatoura neighborhood, next to Ikata Junior High School
Driving directions
Take R197 through Yawatahama toward Ikata / Misaki Port
Take a left after the Idemitsu gas station, at the sign for Ikata Town Office

Lots of fun activities are planned:

  • Free sake tasting
  • Target Bird Golf—open tournament
  • A flea market
  • Mikan, miso, and pickled vegetable judging contests
  • Jako-katsu (a local delicacy) cooking demonstrations
  • Lots and lots of delicious food for sale
  • Mochi-maki (snacks, candy, mochi, etc. thrown down to the crowd from atop a building) at 2pm!

Plus, prizes will be given to 900 participants, so come on down!
